Nurturing Future Leaders through the Power of Education

Greetings everyone!

I’m Sharmatha and currently a final year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Both of my parents pursued their education until secondary level and entered straight into the workforce. Even with limited education, they have managed to maintain a stable job and sustain a family of five for all these years. I am the oldest out of 3 siblings and also the first child to pursue a tertiary education. As a result, I had the privilege to understand how education plays an important role in our personal development. Through education, we are given the opportunity to attain knowledge, build skills and gain experiences that helps us to discover our inner potential and interests which in turn, motivates us to set goals and work towards achieving it.

Unfortunately, even in this day and age, there are parents from B40 communities who are unable to provide proper education for their children due to financial difficulties and sometimes their children are sent to jobs instead of school to support their family. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, things got more challenging for them as schools and institutions began to conduct classes online and they could not afford to purchase the gadgets necessary for each of their children to attend classes.
I find it to be so cruel and unfair that financial struggles would become a hindrance for these students to get an education. Without education, how are they going to advance and break the cycle of poverty? Just like all of us, don’t they too have the desire to chase their dreams? How are we going to overcome income inequality in our nation when the solution to it itself has become inequality?

This does not have to be their reality and I truly believe that every children have the right to get educated, be successful and lead our future generation which is why I am supporting this fundraising campaign organised by SOLS 24/7. This campaign is an initiative taken to provide free education to students from B40 communities virtually with real teachers.

Right now, you get the chance to help secure a better future for these students by the simple act of donating to this campaign. 100% of these donations will be spent on reaching more B40 communities virtually, supporting the platform’s tech stack and paying the salary of the teachers so that the students are able to learn through their platform without any costs.
